Who knew that smoking addiction can starts so early. In Indonesia, a
country that prospered from tobacco export, a 2-year-old baby shocked
the world when video of the baby surfaced showing him apparently
addicted to cigarettes and smoking as many as 40 a day.
Baby Ari Rizal was first given a cigarette by his father when he was 18 months.
"He's totally addicted. If he doesn't get cigarettes, he gets angry and screams and batters his head against the wall. He tells me he feels dizzy and sick."said his Mother.
'I'm not worried about his health, he looks healthy,' shrugged the boy's father Mohammad Rizal.
'He cries and throws tantrums when we don't let him smoke. He's addicted.'
I can not believe that the parents let the baby smoke this many cigarettes a day. Since he is just a toddler, he can not purchase cigarettes by himself. So the parents are definitely at fault.
Data from the Central Statistics Agency showed 25 per cent of Indonesian children aged three to 15 have tried cigarettes, with 3.2 per cent of those active smokers.
The percentage of five to nine year olds lighting up increased from 0.4 per cent in 2001 to 2.8 per cent in 2004, the agency reported.
In Indonesia, teenagers including girls have accept smoking as a "cool" habit. A lot of them also tried smoking from peer pressure and later get addicted.
This video perhaps should be a warning for Indonesia to take the smoking addiction seriously before the whole nation young generation get addicted from cigarettes and died early.
